The Wuste Zulu was developed by Anaheim Electronics for the Sleeves. It is a variant of the AMS-129 Geara Zulu for combat in desert and tropical terrain on Earth. It saw limited action on Earth as the battle for the Laplace's Box took place in Torrington. The Mobile Suit was largely unknown due to the lack of combat engagement.

One unit that belonged to Zeon remnant Shozo Onoda continued guerilla warfare in the Gobi Desert. He customised the Wuste Zulu with additional weaponry and features, cannibalising parts from other Mobile Suits along the way. He continued his war against the Federation until U.C. 0123, where he fought a three-way battle between the Federation and a Crossbone Vanguard force on Earth sent to capture the mines of Gobi. After the battle, he was convinced to surrender by his daughter, a Federation pilot that fought in the battle. When the Wuste Zulu was confiscated from Onoda, Federation engineers were surprised that the Mobile Suit was still in working order despite being close to thirty years-old.
